An article intended for practitioners of Chinese medicine:
We all swallow air on a daily basis but sometimes we swallow too much air without noticing.
This condition is called aerophagia and is manifested by belching, abdominal discomfort, and swelling in the upper and lower abdomen (the air reaches the lower abdomen with the digestive tract).
What can be done to reduce air swallowing?
*Avoid carbonated drinks
*Avoid chewing gum (there are many problems with chewing gum beyond swallowing air, I will write about that another time)
*Eat slowly and pay attention to not swallowing air while eating (focus on chewing and breathing while eating).
*Do not eat while driving, working, or sitting in front of a computer.
*When exercising - pay attention to our breathing. For this reason, I believe that walking is better for those who suffer from bloating and abdominal discomfort than running (I also hear this a lot from patients).
According to Keren Volkomir, a naturopath specializing in treating digestive problems, it is also better to eat soft, ground, liquid foods that pass easily from the stomach to the rest of the digestive system, so that pressure is not created on the sphincter between the esophagus and the stomach.
Keren adds that fibrous foods slow down the rate of stomach emptying, so it is recommended in these situations to eat foods with less fiber: remove the skin from vegetables and eat incomplete foods such as white and incomplete rice (as long as there is no underlying constipation).
Of course, from a Chinese perspective, Keren's instructions work well for us with the attempt to ease the spleen and stomach during the digestive process.
