An article intended for practitioners of Chinese medicine:
I want to share an herbal formula that I learned from Dr. Liang, director of the gastroenterology department in Chengdu. Dr. Liang gave this formula to many patients, each with a different modification.
When I returned to Israel, I used it a lot and it took me a while to realize that most people in Israel need more qi movement that comes from a formula like chai hu shu gan san and less use of a strengthening formula, but I do give this formula when the main diagnosis is PI QI XU (swelling in the abdomen, soft stools) and there are almost no qi blockages.
The formula is called Huang qi jian zhong tang, and although it is a formula known from Chinese literature, Dr. Liang gave it with some modification from what is written in the literature.
So here it is as I saw it in his recipes, enjoy :)
huang qi jian zhong tang
huang qi 60
bai zhu 20
da zao 40
zhi ke 30
dang shen 30
gui zhi 15
zhi gan cao 10
bai shao 15
gan jiang 10
I don't give the same doses as he did because they seem a bit excessive to me... I give a dose as is customary in Israel.
